Shade

You speak as if you've read all the pages.
All knowing; bestow yourself this grace.
Beneath that serenity lies an abandoned cage.
Don't try to hide what's scrawled across your face.
I've forsworn myself, now I'll tell the truth.
The only reason for love in this world is you.

Do you want to see my eyes shaded from the sun?
Take this love and concern from deep inside me.
Tear down these walls, show this damaged heart is done.
Prove it's not "you and I" and no longer "we."

A tomb is set in earth, shuddering beneath you.
A souvenir of your self-inflicted ascension.
Housing the victims you so lovingly slew,
Demons overtaken; yearning for redemption.

Please don't tell me it's wrong to keep holding on.
Don't say those feelings were never worth the fight.
Even when the pain is numbed and gone,
I'll still need and bleed to feel your sunlight.

:-) Thank you for taking me under this epic and awesome imagery. Sam, CONGRATULATIONS, for making the top, hottest, and the best NEW poets list on the Poetry Soup. You had the number one spot all week. I'm a little confused. When I marked you as a favorite poet, when you first join the soup, you weren't using the short name Sam. Anyways. I'm happy for you. ~ LOVE ~ SKAT

My niece goes by SAM, it's short for Sandra Alicia M. Thank you for the little chat. I like Sam, it's nice and easy. I myself have so many nicknames. My sister's call me SID. My hubby and siblings call me Siddy, when good moods are around. My hubby & parents call me Sidney when demanding or mad.

Thanks Skat! You're correct. I wasn't. Haha I do prefer Sam though. I don't like readers to perceive me as a gender since it has nothing to do with the experience they have when reading my pieces. Androgyny is just a little easier. They can say 'he' or 'she' and at the end of the piece they're just taking away their own individual perception and not mine. Sorry for confusion! - Admirably yours, Sam.

Sam, I'm here by way of Richard. I just read all your posted poems, something I rarely do. You have great potential. I do see a common thread in most -your one-sided mental conversations with a woman. I liked several that approached regular meter and rhyme, a form you might want to consider. I liked this one and Societal Dream the best. I get the sense of a woman slightly older than you in several poems.
