Seven Things I Have To Save From Fire
I hope I never have a fire in my humble home.
Still, I like to plan ahead so, this is how it would go:
First, thing I would save, must be my cell phone;
to, call the fire department so, they can save my home?
Crucial papers would be second. my wallet and cash.
My journals with my sketches and my family photo stash.
A hooded coat and shoes, if it’s frigid outside;
Standing in the cold won’t do; it’s not how I want to die!
I’d wish I had time to grab additional things but, doubt there’ll be;
that’s all I’d have time to grab, if there were, just me.
I try to keep important things, together ‘neath the bed;
I can grab them and vacate my flaming homestead.
If family and pets were home; saved first, they’d be;
family might save themselves but, pets we might not see.
Especially, the shorter ones, may be hidden by the smoke;
for they are family too, precious four-legged folk.
