The cold salt slaps against my chest,
And finally, the mind goes quiet.
I push away from sand and stone,
Leaving the shore and all its riot.
Out here, the sky is wide and clean,
I’m swimming through the rolling green.
No clock to watch, no rush, no race,
There's only open water, open space.
With every stroke and breath I take,
The daily noise begins to fade.
The heavy things I carried down,
Dissolve into the deeper shade.
It’s just the sea, the sky and me,
As simple as a soul can be.
A quiet peace, my hiding place,
My heart is home in this embrace.

The gentle rhythm of this poem flows through its rhyme scheme.
