Thanks, Andrea. We're so used to reading left to right - going mostly vertical seems to slow things down to me, making for more a feeling of peace, or could be a longer session of unrelenting dread, or setting the reader up for a surprise, etc.

Right on, Chris, thanks. When I worked in Jamaica, you could pick ripe mangoes right off the tree. That kicked ass.
