Sentimentality

Boo, hiss, spare me the phony sentimentality Like you really think anyone gives a damn, And, while you’re at it I say, sarcastically, Get your side-glancing, eye-rolling response Nothing so disgusts me as false gooeyness That syrupy froth that freezes on demand, Accompanied by raw, unbridled saccharinity Just one touch of your pure, unavoidable grace.

Accompanied by raw, unbridled saccharinity You don't pull any punches! I admire your honesty

Well, Julia asked for the most venal kind of opinion on sentimentality, so, I took her prompt and ran with it. It's pretty much how I feel, too. Thanks so much for the read and the thoughtful comment, Spirit. I really loved hearing from you.

Children catch on to this right away too "Nothing so disgusts me as false gooeyness" and immediately call it what it is.

Yes, they do. I don't know how, but they seem to sense it intuitively. Many adults are so busy eating it up, they don't see the raw truth.

Some certainly try it on and can turn on the water works for good measure. Tom

Ha, ha! Now I know where the inventors of 'Monopoly' got the idea for 'Water Works' from. Are you responsible for 'Electric Company' too, Tom?!

Yep, that's a fact, Tom. I wrote this for Julia's contest, but I do not like see this kind of syrupy sentimentality. It's too often fake!
