Senryu Child Abuse

his dad
                              before the beating
                              another belt of whiskey

Reminds me of my childhood. I have tasted that whiskey many a time. But I deserved it most of the time as well (lol) Great write! Congrats on POTD! Charlie. All the best, Charles

Thank you Charles. I think many of us whom were young children during the 1950`s experienced these consequences. Many of our fathers came home from the war with demons and drinking was their way to burying their haunts. But here we are. Thank you for reading and your response.

Brilliantly conveyed truth in this fine example of a senryu Charlie. My parent never spared the rod, so I can relate. Congratulations on your deserving honor of POTD! Very nice to meet you. Aloha, Connie

A poetic stiletto - quick and painful. Brilliant poetry. I hope writing brings catharsis. It is good to speak out. Congrats, Charlie on POTD ~ John

So true Paula, like I discussed with Gershon…In many homes that was the norm back then. When Dad pulled in the driveway our laughter stopped…Thanks for reading and your comment.

Like that double entendre with belt. I felt that belt as a child a few too many times. Didn't think of it as abuse in the 1950's. It was all for the best ultimately somehow, anyway. Great senryu, Charlie! :) Gershon

As a young child of the 1950`s I saw both sides of the belt…WWII Dad with demons. You`re right Gershon. I did think it was the norm but still lived in fear…Thank you for following my poems and your responses.

Sadly that was the norm in many households of kids growing up in the 1950`s, and to some extent, still happening in this "woke" era…As always. Thank you for all your kind words Line, and for following my poems.
