Seeking Freedom
Alcohol sodden nights spent remembering you
Sitting in a corner of a crowded bar
An island of contemplative misery in a riotous sea
Drowning my misery
Searching for solace at the bottom of an emptied bottle
And ironically never finding it
The pain of your loss runs too deep
A wound manifest in every fiber of my being
Scarring every vein
Searing through my beleaguered heart
A bittersweet aching pain
I carry this agony everywhere I go
I dodge from inebriation to melancholy
Trying my hardest to escape your memory
But you haunt me like a stubborn ghost
I see you everywhere
In a ray of effervescent sunlight
In the deepest shadows of a lonely night
Your face is an imprint on every facet of my life
I’m doomed to hold you forever in my mind’s secret sight
But maybe one day…
If I drink enough
Dance enough
Live my life as if your shadow didn’t hover over it…
Maybe then I can discard you as you discarded me
And be at last – joyously - free
