Secrets
I caught the glimmer of fear reflected in your eyes.
The lingering traces of regret and worry
as it wander over your cheek upon its final journey.
I saw the flicker of pain around your lips.
The echo of memories long but faded from the mind.
I felt the shudder of uncertainty as I touched your skin.
The fleeting pain that course through heart,
all but your own burden in this world.
I could hear the husky rasp of your voice.
The words that fell from trembling lips,
as you took me into confidence.
Sharing secrets not meant for prying ears,
secrets never to be retold.
I watched you smile and turn to leave.
Your hair so fair,
caressed by a gentle breeze.
The few steps that pulled you away from me,
touched my heart with sincerity.
As I watched you walk away,
hesitating a moment to look back at me.
‘A brave soul’
I heard the whisper in my ear.
As we part ways
for the remainder of our days.
As I now help carry the burden
of your deeply held secrets,
our bond now ever so strong.
As hope arise anew in my heart,
of the day we once again stand face to face.
And break these walls that forever keep us apart.
