Searching For You

I walk upon a green feathered hilltop
to find your soul, that I lost long ago
and lay flowers where your grave says stop
sit in the silence till' the sun is low
I'll bow my head and feel the loneliness
while trembling hands cradle tears that fall
I feel the sadness of my emptiness
while listening for the unanswered call
there is no time that my pain's loss can quell
no answer to quiet the question why
as life moves on and there is only hell
searching for you, I'm lost, my eyes still cry

I'll claim no noble dignity or deed
find nothing alone on this hill, but need

This remarkable poem packs industrial-strength emotional power in its limited lines. It made me think of my own loved who have passed on. The ending is especially memorable and moving. Thank you for sharing it. Beautiful even midst its sadness.

Dear Frederic, the lingering pain associated with loss of a loved one comes through so vividly in your poem. I can really relate to this one as I lost a husband and a fiancé. Both have been gone for a long time, but I still cry at times and wonder how my life would be if they hadn't die. Favorite line: "With hands trembling cradle tears that fall." There was a puddle beneath me when we turned off the respirator and watched my father die. Definitely a favorite poem, Frederic. Love, Carolyn

I'm sorry for your loss Carolyn and yes when things happen we always ask what if..and yet it is these same things that give us strength...my wife cried for three long years after her father died and I when mine died paid no attention because he was a very abusive parent and loss the right for me to care
