Seahorses For Julia Ward's Contest
Seahorses.
Who needs them?
Who wants them?
For what?
Really?
Seahorses look like the small letter q, inverted.
No other animals can do that backward tail curve,
Except the husky dogs.
These strange little sea urchins should have
Been named Bug-eyers.
Or Question floaters
Or Inverted Sea Q’s.
They do not look like horses to me,
No expert really, since I have only fallen
Off of two of them.
When you are falling off though,
You notice the powerful legs
Pounding toward your frightened head.
Do sea horses have powerful legs?
I think not.
And think about those tails, the way
They are curved inward, under
Their pie outtake buttons.
Who has to scrape the crud
Off them when they have to
You know what?
Inverted Sea Q’s probably have to use baby wipes on each other.
See how easily that term glides off a tongue? Inverted Sea Q's.
But what about the snout, you ask me.
Snout! I have to re-look at the Bug-eyed
Question Floaters, because all I noticed
Was their bulging buggy eyes.
Oh, now I see it.
Okay.
I’ll give a bit there.
The snout does look a bit horsey.
But where are those powerful legs?
What kind of pounding are you going to
Get if you fall off of a Question Floater?
Answer that if you can.
