Scars

You applaud when you see
The sunshine
And the giggles
The laughter and the smile
 When you see the mask

You would scream when you see
The scars
And the truth that leaks through the cracks

You would cower when you see
The darkness
And how it steals the sun

You would hide when you see
The monster inside of me
The monster that I fight
The monster that is me

Good thing you don’t see the scars.

Hi Lily, I am not a typical person who writes poetry, I am just a bloke that tries to write what my mouth cant always speak. I dont profess to be good at poetry and so I wont try and respond with anything else than telling you that I heard you with this poem and some of the others I read of yours. I dont write or post to sound clever and all my poems are just what i felt at the time and reflect that only and I felt that yours were written in the same manner. However, its nice to hear gratitude

Hi Andrew. Honestly you’ve got it spit on - I write to lessen the weight my heart carries and sometimes to answer questions I don’t know the answer to. Thank you for your comment, it’s really nice to hear you feel the same way. I’ve read some of your work as well - it’s really good.

Scars are easily hidden behind a mask. To truly know how someone can cope is to take down the mask. Your inner monster is also your defence stopping you for being you. Someone who has a mask that tricks everyone into believing your happy needs to show their other side.
