Scars

Scars

An open wound
That must be closed
Infection looms
A threat disclosed

To isolate
It seems the thing
But healing comes
The more we sing

That song of life
Not thickened derm
Those scars a story
We must learn

For in that
Self-protection race
We lose the smile
Of friendship face

Connection -
Whatever form may take
Reveals the heart
As humans wake

Protection -
Is the shell that steals
But love the wound
That never heals
