Scam Caller

How do you choose the numbers,
By random or by choice?
What's the point in calling me,
When you'll never hear my voice?
So much wasted time you spend
Ringing up my phone,
Aren't there better ways
To spend the time you own?

I do not answer calls
From a number I don't know,
Regardless where it's from
Or how many in a row.
And robo calls with messages,
Computer generated
Are so fake and phony,
A minus ten they're rated.

If you'll stoop this low,
To be annoying every day,
What about your character
Does your behaviour say?
Anyone who gains by stealing,
No matter how or what they steal,
Can't have self respect nor
Good about themselves, feel.

Are you really this desperate
In the misery where you wallow,
You can only in this rut
Stay in and follow?
Or are you just a narcissist
Who gets pleasure causing pain,
Havoc, and discord abundantly,
While promoting selfish gain?

A scam is a scam,
Built on/around deceit
No matter how it's cloaked,
A scammer is a cheat.
To paint yourself so clearly
In such an unbecoming light,
While you justify your actions,
Bending wrong into right,
Puts you in a class
Of the lowest form.
How can you be okay with this
And accept this as your norm?

Faraz Ajmal April 21, 2018 at 10:14 AM Such calls are really annoying, and in Pakistan where I live, mostly people just use such sentencesas an excuse in order to talk to women, my mother often receive many calls, an ad, many things and sometimes with really bizzare lines, like is it Aiman ( they take any random name)or it s number of my girlfriend, or you called me earlier, and are really annoying, I once remember my mother talking really loudly, saying that if he ever call again, she ll report,such calls can really ruin a moment Artsieladie Sharon Donnelly April 21, 2018 at 11:01 AM Yes, they can be, Faraz. Hence, my adopted policy is, 'Don't know ya, don't answer ya'. Everyone I know, if they wish to get a hold of me badly enough, they leave a voicemail. I find this eliminates my getting annoyed and the scammer accomplishes nothing and they've wasted 'their' time and 'their' dime. All the best to you. :) ~ Artsie

Caren Krutsinger April 6, 2018 at 2:17 AM Lots of people need a flex hour job, and these jobs pay okay, and give you really wonderful flex hours. I think that's the reason; I too, hardly ever answer a phone number if I do not recognize it. I have been known to hand the phone to a 2 or 3 year old when a persistent marketer will not get off. They happily babble away until the dialer hangs up. Artsieladie Sharon Donnelly April 6, 2018 at 8:24 PM I think my conscience would get the better of me, if I had a job, any job, that knowingly caused grief to others or took advantage of and used others. It would bother me to no end. That's a good idea since marketers won't take 'no' for an answer. If they can't understand 'no', the babbling of a 2-3 year old seems more up their alley, I think. lol Thanks, Caren. :) ~ Artsie

In my case I know 'who' most of the calls are coming from and last week his fingers were very bored I guess. lol My phone has quieted down considerably since writing this poem. Tell ya what I do sometimes, I answer "Hello", then repeat hello louder and louder as if I can't hear them then hang up. I think it took me a grand total of 10 minutes to write it, like the words had already been engraved and all I had to do is jot them down. Happy Easter and all the best to you. :) ~ Artsie

Jan Allison March 30, 2018 at 7:39 AM It is so so irritating when you know its a scam call and its fun if you try and string them along so they aren't targeting anyone else whilst you keep them on the line and run up their phone bill. Even though we are on the telephone preference service they still manage to sneak through:-( I feel so sorry when folks get caught out by them they seem to prey on the vulnerability and gullibility of people as they can be so convincing:-( hugs jan xx Artsieladie Sharon Donnelly March 30, 2018 at 8:00 AM It's irritating for sure and I have done like you speak of, when I've made the mistake of answering a call. I especially liked it when I would get them so aggravated, they'd wind up being the one hanging up! They've no problem annoying people, but they don't like it when it's they who are annoyed even though they're responsible for getting exactly what they asked for.
