Notes About The Poem

Saving Wangsasre

death of a forest

   blatant rape of sacred land

        the green olympics!

--------------------------------

A forest in S. Korea, consisting of 500 year old wangsasre trees,
is being cut down to make way for Olympic ski facilities that will
be used for a four day competition in 2018.
The IOC has mandated these games as the “Green Olympics”!!

Sharp piece, Paul, a shame that it was called for. Will we ever learn? Regards, Viv

I would like to say that we are learning, but when something like this crops up I start losing faith! We can help by making our voice heard. ~ Tislijiet, Viv:) // paul

Forest echoes and homes various stories.... and it is sad so sad that a forest is being sacrificed for such.............................. the years these trees grew, the years those animals thrive there................ is it worth for a four day event? I should have shown some of your poems as my example in my last contest.. :D hugs!!~Olive ELoisa =`)

Thank you Olive_eloi; your support is appreciated. Both the trees and living creatures that inhabit the area will suffer through such senseless actions. ~ Missed your last contest:( Had too much on my plate! ~ Hugs // paul

Thanks for sharing this Paul...Seems the only 'GREEN' about these Olympics has nothing to do with trees other than the fact that what I refer to is MADE from them...They are FAR older than us and we should remember that God created them to TEACH us, not cut them down...I have trees in my own BACK YARD that are older than me!! - Tim

Thank you for the sensible feedback, Tim! The financial aspect, somehow, always manages to take a major role! Am reminded of your latest Haibun offering! ~ All the best. // paul

Dear Paul, happy that you have written on the same subject and in the same way. I do fight each time I see something wrong. Last thing was on the migrants " Shame Of Humanity" and about peace" We are Brothers" Unfortunately few people care. You my friend care that is why I am happy. Already two people shared it on their facebook and more will follow. We do what we are able to. Thank you for caring and for your visit so I know we are on the same side. God bless you for caring!

Hi Demi! Thank you for stopping by to read my 'twin' poem! Yes, we care, but I am sure there are also many others who share our feelings and love for nature. Mother Earth has a lot to put up with, so she'll appreciate a helping hand! ~ All the best, my friend. // paul

Koreans have a history of being prudent and they are proud of their natural resources, history, and culture. I'm sure they have very good reasons for their decision. Whatever it is, I understand your reaction, my friend. The world would be a safer place if more people like you speak out. hugs!

I agree with you, Kim. Koreans are usually careful in the way they treat nature; in this case reason appears to be somewhat hazy! Thank you for your contribution. Hugs // paul

I so dearly love trees and find this to be a great tragedy ... Man's utter stupidity amazes me . Destroy that magnificent stand of trees for a 4 day event and one that supposedly stands for "GREEN Olympics".. What a shame, what a sham.... Great Senyru. A7

What a powerful senryu. I had not heard about this. What a complete shame - ripping down 500 year old trees for a FOUR day competition. Thank you for bringing our attention to this.
