Sappho's Climb

SAPPHO'S CLIMB

Is this Sappho to whom i speak
Bride of Lesbos with the low forbidden voice
She climbs the rocky mountains dangerous peak
Calls in the blue daughters of twilight to rejoice
in the bursting spring. She brings her songs and lyre
Delights the camping soldiers with the fire
Bold call-- vibrates soldierly repressed desires
Sirens yearn --bid most valiant heroes return
Desert-- slaves to familiar arms that hold them til they burn

Being Greek I appreciate it twice! Marvelous writing, inspiring and provoking!

wow, I just love this one, Vic, and I love Sappho. I wrote one about her too - I think it's called the Tenth Muse.
