Author's Notes:"Santa Claus" is a Tanka written in the traditional 5-7-5-7-7 syllabication schema. The message of this write should be obvious. Santa Claus is a historical and mythic figure of great importance. As this historical figure, Santa Claus, is seen as typifying the Christmas Spirit; and in his personage, as one who promotes a common spirit of good cheer while bringing with him a special aura of peace, joy, fun, and sharing with others. On that note, I say: Merry Christmas to All!! (Gary Bateman - December 3, 2015) (Tanka)

Santa Claus

The Children’s Hero—
Promotes the Christmas Spirit!
A Big Kid himself . . .
	 Omnipresent, forever!
A divine mythic image!

A lovely tanka that fits in nicely with the Christmas spirit, Gary. Deep down I still like to 'believe' that Santa does truly exist; he sounds too good not to be true:) May I take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones all the best for the festive season. ~ Regards // paul

Thanks Paul for your wonderful comments here. Santa Claus for me represents (now) a metaphorical personification of the beauty and wonder of sharing and giving to others during Christmas and a representation of the Christmas spirit. And to help those less fortunate. When we were all little kids though, I know I still looked for him to come down the Chimney on Christmas Eve!! Best Holiday Wishes to you and your loved ones!! Cheers, Gary

Hello Again Dear One "D" -- I'm pleased too that you liked this Tanka on "Santa Claus." I thought, for a change, a simple Christmas write with a simple, but compelling and positive message, was important to do. "Santa Claus" does this. Thanks for the 7/FAV and your wonderful comments!! All the best, and Merry Christmas to you from Ingrid and me!! G.

- My children and grandchildren have "stopped believing" in Santa Claus several years ago ........ that magic is gone - Sad, but it gets so with teenagers in the house - Lovely poem, with magic in my eyes, dear Gary :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

Thanks Dear Anne-Lise!! I guess it's only "US" poets who still believe in the magic and ultimate wonder of Santa Claus and Christmas. This is so important especially with the world we live in today. Thanks for your read here!! Cheers and Best, Gary
