Saline Eyes

curled up on the bed beside you,
me, just wanting to be there
silent, but there

saline eyes
betraying my feelings

you ask me why I cry,
and I cannot give a decent reply,
only "I'm scared"

but it is more than that...

so much so

a whirlpool of meaning
in those tears

but you are brave, so brave
strong, so strong
since it is you
who will be under that knife again, not me

yet you comfort me
as you always have

wiping away tears, kissing them away,
like mothers always do
