Sage

he had always hated injustice
a rational being who had learnt over time
that emotions may hold more value than reason
and that the essence of life
is distilled from compassion kindness and love

times had been difficult
with depression and bereavement
taking their toll
arguments creeping in
and feelings of rejection coming to the fore

the power of a passionate and sacred union
healed what had been written in the stars
and moons full of honey sweetened
life once again

his children reacted with
breaking trust
being judgemental
all of them lacked empathy
in their different ways

the lovers proceeded on their path
used smudge sticks candles and incense
cleansed their surroundings of negative energy
turned to the archangel Michael
to cement and severe with a light sword
as they inhaled beauty and togetherness

he could have argued with his kids
shown them their prejudice and transgression
but decided that after all it was no skin of his nose
he could do without scars
and that passion was no witchcraft
but that metaphorical spirits would point a way

surely he felt disappointment
but fragrances and lightness
felt so much lighter than anxiety anger or sadness

life can be a prison or a prism
hurt is what one makes of getting too close
when a little bit of distance fares much better
