Safekeeping

In a leaky aquarium of air
you call out all the gods!
You fight and gulp the sky.
Fists and knuckles
scrape heaven, bruise blue,
scare red yellow enough
to break into a
gallop in your new
Italian shoes …
Hurts all of our
wildflowers— shatters
plans and plots—
Strewn broken pieces of
heart cut whatever else
is in the way.
I love you, you burning
mystic maniac.
I want to keep you close
and faraway
Squeeze you in between pages,
until sheets of
neon glows breathless.
Press, crease, pinch,
Fold into a shadow,
locket.
