Safe Place

My heart beat's faltering
I'm fading away
If this keeps up
Soon I'll only be a memory

My foot steps are slowing
I stop to catch my breath
Why was I running
When I wasn't being chased

Running from my past
All the regrets and mistakes
But nowhere to go
Becoming lost in the threads of time

Engulfed in the memories
Smiles and laughs
Pain and tears
Everything that got me to where I am now

Questions unanswered
And a tangle of lies
Has it all been worth it
Or is it just a waste of time

I shake my head
Clearing my thoughts
Now's not the time
To get caught up

My breathing is normal
And I've built some strength
I start running again
Searching for my safe place
