It was more like 12 or more inches in 3 days, but I live on top of a bluff. My basement got wet but has before. All the highways and areas underwater have been underwater before. We live where 2 MAJOR rivers covering 1/2 the country meet. People build levy's on flood plains then Build behind them. They always claim it's a 100 or 500 year flood. It flooded in the 1980's, 93, and now 2015. With a hurricaine going up the river to dump more than 7 inches somewhere inbetween. Not new, but sad.

PS. You are hearing the news guys having a GREAT News Day. Here it's mostly life as usual for us. We're very organized about flooding in St. Louis. Only newbies have trouble and don't know what to expect.

I live about 100 feet above the river on Top of the Bluffs. The people dying are mostly trying to drive thru the flood waters... then get swept away. A few others refuse to leave their homes. Or go camping or fishing with rising waters and strong flood currents in the water.

PS. We had plenty of pre- warning. It's a mess. I hate to see homes along creeks and rivers lost. But it does happen. We're a tough bunch of river people when it comes to flooding... Believe it or not... on top of the bluffs we have springs coming to the surface naturally when it's dry... And more when it rains hard. Therefore, on TOP of the bluffs, the water table rises and gives us wet basements. Strange but true.
