Sad Girls Love the Hardest

Sad girls love the hardest
Broken hearts and fractured souls
Scars on porcelain arms, hidden under dark sleeves
Makeup to hide a face of infinite sorrows

They know how to treat others with the sincerest of love
The sweetest of smiles hold the most painful backstories
As those who are abused either become the abuser
Or live to save more of those who have faced it

They'll treat your heart with reverence
And never take your presence for granted
A gentle whisper of love and care
Feels safe enough to fall asleep in

When close enough, it's time for show and tell
A painful record of scars all over
Like lines on the wood of an oak tree
Showing all the traumas been through

Protective like no other, of the treasure that they have found
Frozen hearts will never let the world take from them again
The hardest fighters that didn't give up
When what didn't kill them made them wish they were dead

Sad girls love the hardest
Because we've been through it all
If you ever meet one of these people
Treasure them for all time and ever
