Running

They say mind over matter.
But for a runner,
It's heart over mind.
Anticipation runs through my veins
And doubt fills my mind,
But the gun goes off
And nothing seems to matter other than time:
"We will soar on wings like eagles,
We will run and not grow weary"
The sound of footsteps,
The sound of heartbeats,
All in unison
All in tune
I hear passion with every inhale
And love
With every exhale
As the winds pass,
So have the years.
But the recollections of it all,
Shall never fade.
The laughter in our breaths
And the pain in our limbs
For there's nothing greater than
The beauty of pain
And the pain of beauty.
There's just something about the sunsets painted in the sky
That form the pictures in my mind,
The ones with teammates
by my side
With pride in our hearts
And God's overwhelming grace in all that surrounds.
4 indescribable years,
4 years of growth,
4 years of experience,
4 years of memories,
And here's what I've learned:
Times are meaningless,
When memories
Are timeless.
The race may have ended,
But the journey has just begun.

Thank you! Those were my favorite lines too. I read this at my cross country banquet; it just summed up my experience of being on a team for four years :)
