Rubicon Crossing
it was the day of her birth
when she stood at the Styx
naked but with all bags packed
with immanent sadness and joy
too young for being ambiguous
she let out a scream and let down
a reflex for simply being alive
the sign said dangerous water
touch at your own peril
and be aware that
you cannot swim upstream
therefore move with the flow
she searched for diamonds
proceeded to the delta
past cascades and cataracts
squinted and blinked for
life was like sinkholes and riptides
too much rainfall at times
not enough droplets in the drought
a desert bloom only flowers
every once and a while
with shortcomings
and impermanence
rapid conclusion
and yet infinite flourish
thunder clouds lit
an emerald sky
the amber horizon fastened
a rainbow painted in black
but her vision grew from fast
to furious and then serenely calm
a tributary to understanding
meaning pleasure and task
she realized that the flood
was no deluge and all truth be told
rather a Rubicon to push and absorb
more often than not pleasantly nude
she refused purple emperor’s clothes
preferred rag cloth and bathers
and when she finally sank
her last breath and commitment
was full of happiness crossing
into blessed nothingness of
sacred caress of the embrace
