Notes About The Poem
Several times on my way to work lately, I have caught myself driving by rote. In other words, I "woke up" to discover myself farther down the road than I expected and I did not recall merging onto the highway, changing lanes, or even turning. It made me wonder how many of us do that with our lives.

Rote

Turning,
Merging,
Braking,
Swerving.
Dreaming
of a
different
life,
a different
place,
a different
time.
Blinking,
Blaring,
Crashing,
Burning.

How did I get here?
