Rorys Eccentric Proposal

You say you want to marry me,
But how on earth could that be,
You say that I’m the one for you,
Know naught about you, have no clue,
You say we’ll travel far and wide,
With you forever by my side,
You want to take me to the moon,
You promise me that will be soon,
I wonder how you’ll do all this
How about you first give me a kiss,
And explain this complicated story
With dinner and a glass of wine dear Rory!
Of course I will says this eccentric man,
Give me a chance to speak, I am your fan,
Let’s go and book our worldwide trip,
Then go to dinner, and with a sip
Or two or three of the best French wine,
Fly way up high on my private plane, as we dine,
And furthermore, have a surprise for you,
In fact not only one, but I have two,
Kneels on one knee and offers me a ring,
A bright diamond at least 3 carats, bling,
I was floating, wondered did it show, in a daze,
This whole day was just a blur a, haze.
The 2nd, - tickets not to the moon, but Mars,
Refused this gift, preferred planet earth and cars,
And still the kiss had not yet come,
Felt bewildered, wanted to phone my mum!
Hey wonder boy Rory, how about that kiss,
Oh wow, loved that, imagine if I did that miss!
I have loved you Amy, for such a long time,
My father likes you also, we watched you climb
The corporate ladder, with those great pins
Because of these, forgiven any previous sins,
I liked your ways, your speech at any forum,
The way you managed meetings with decorum,
I even pulled out your file from H/R,
See you speak French, Spanish, heritage USSR!
I am the Chairman’s son,
I’m maybe somewhat of a brat, but love you a ton,
And the only thing I ask of you,
Is to stand by my side, and be my wife,
And make me happy, for all of my remaining life!
How can a girl refuse such an awesome request?
I married Rory, he’s a gem, my case I do now rest!

I was wondering what in the world was happening. Why was that kiss so long in coming. But it has such a happy ending, I was more than satisfied at the end. A lovely tale that is probably more true than false.

Hi my lovely, supportive poetess of note. The kiss was definitely late in coming but eccentrics are kinda different, or at least, they think they are! Hug and blessings, Jennifer.

WoW! Jenny, You sure know how to tell a story my friend. Your story held my attention from start to finish. She was most definitely a catch! I'm pretty sure on the wedding day he gave her one heck of kiss! I love happy endings. I enjoyed the read:-) Alexis

I do too, that is why I enjoy re-interpreting fairy tales sometimes, but this poem has got a kind of a happy ever after fairy tale image. Imagine no kiss in the year 2019, unheard of! Thanks for a lovely comment my friend, Hugs and blessing, Jenny.

And they lived happily ever after? I really got wrapped up in this, both the story and rhyme were great entertainment. There was an amusing element that held throughout. Great fun, Jenny. (I am all alone in my house, isn't that great? Finally, reading others on Soup. YAY to being alone!) Poetry hugs ... CayCay

At home alone - a thriller - remember? Must say not too happy staying at home alone, but that's me - maybe I'v seen too many thrillers and who did it movies! I'm so thrilled you liked my little love story - eccentric Rory sounds like a bit of a brat, gets his way too often, but used his kind of character which blended perfectly into my story! Stay well and happy and always blessed dear CayCay, Love Jenny.

Hi Nette, what else would a girl want - hope he's good to her, sounds a little arrogant! Hugs and Blessings, Jen.

What a roller-coaster ride, Jennifer. This is really good, and I like how it turns out...Gotta tell you, halfway through I thought Rory was going to actually be a Martian from Mars and that's why he hadn't kissed 'you' yet... Very creative and 'page-turning.' A delight! :) gw

Thanks Gershon, the story was more or less based on a film I saw many moons ago, with a few variations - Im glad you liked it - no good looking martians, but a good thought! Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.
