Rome

My parents used to say, "Money doesn't grow on trees".
I already knew that and that it didn't lie in the weeds.
But it was one of their proverbs to teach us about survival.
It was their way of teaching us to be thoughtful and frugal.
It was similar to another proverb I heard very early in life.
I don't remember who, where, or why, but someone said to me,
"Rome wasn't built in a day". They'd say, 'Things take time'.

Hello. My name is Rome. I'm very well known.
I no longer provide a throne for emperors and rulers,
but be advised that I am still vibrant and strong.
I am still admired, and many have been inspired.
History records that I was both feared and revered.
I built great roads and a world empire. And I also set
many hearts on fire. Even the Bible records how I
provided respect and dignity to the citizens of my empire.

Although I am not as famous as I was once upon a time,
let us all understand that I was not built in a day. In Europe,
I still remain, where some things still remain the same. And
although I am not as famous, I feel great, not old and grey.
