For the Ends Poetry Contest of Craig Cornish

_________________________________________________________________________-

Passion can be a somewhat lustful animal.
When it feeds continuously, it will . . . eventually
tire of the type of sustenance for which it used to yearn.
Its constant engorgement consumes the very longing
for what once had spurred it on,
for romantic passion can only subsist mainly on fresh flesh
and it inevitably ends.

If romantic passion is wise,
it will reinvent itself, evolving into a deeper breed of love -
something more trusting, comfortable, and true.
Sadly, romantic passion is often mistaken
for the very thing which it needs so badly to change into,
thus ending in disillusionment and a craving something new.
Happily, however, the creature passion can rekindle the enthusiasm
for its old diet – though not ever as frequently as it had in the past.

There is a different passion - a lascivious obsessive beast
which, when deprived of what it longs for
or denied control of what it thinks it owns,
will stifle or stalk its prey, and kill any chance
for real love to ever begin at all.

Those who never learn the difference in love and lust~~and, for that reason, mourn the eventual dying down of passion~~can't be deeply happy and at PEACE. This is an excellent, realistic, expressive piece, Andrea.

It's the engorgement that wanes, true love retires the lust to replace it with admiration, respect, companionship, comfortable knowing, cherished "pecks", hand holding, and shared everything. Good luck in CC's contest, AD. ;o)

Yes,a romantic passion especially when primarily based on physical attraction is not sustainable in the long term. There is abundance example we see.

You have shared much truth Andrea. Your thoughts are shared and you really have an understanding of this subject matter. Passion should always be there, when it's not there is a reason somewhere the key I think is finding that reason out and correcting it...Hugs.

- Passion / obsession is a form of pressure and power that I would never call romantic and certainly not love, Andrea - Great written :) - hugs

Real love is deeper, greater than romantic passion, I think. Have a wonderful day, hugs AA

Andrea, Your amazing poetry captures the core of romantic passion, from its first intensity to its waning and ache for transition into a deeper, more permanent love. This warns against compulsive desire that can hinder real partnerships when passionate romance and sincere devotion are combined.

A very deep and meaningful poem this is dear sweet andrea. I love the depth of this and how youv delivered it especially the opening and ending in here truly stands out for me. Yea when honeymoon period ends, if its true love it will definitely evolve but nowadays that isnt the case. Brilliant take on the prompt. I was thinking of doing this prompt too tho lets see. Hope you get a win. Best wishes. Sendinv you light always

thanks, I didn't know if it was right to stick on the ending I did, but I keep thinking of all the horrible people who do not understand love and then get so possessive and destroy the person they profess to love. That is another poem altogether I suppose. Good luck with this contest. I have written for all the ones I want to. I still have five to post but now there are two more I need to write for (yours I finished already too!!) and yes, you are right. Today's society keeps remarrying because they do not understand the simple concept of romantic passion vs real love. So sad to see so much stupidity in this world.

Andrea, it takes some mental effort and direction to preserve romance. I'm thinking of what we sometimes must overlook and set aside. We do have to devote time to think about what we like in our partner. It's not an easy thing in a world of limitless temptations. Hope you are well, of course. Smiles!!

well, science says it can never be the same as at first. It can be kept going but I think you get my drift! I am never well, but thanks for asking. Sorry, but my weird conditions often get me down and not a doctor I know has solutions for what another doctor brought on in me with his worthless injections. I carry a deep resentment of our medical system.
