Roma
Sneaking downstairs in the witching hours
I find my first lover
Before school, I rarely get much sleep
A Francophile who could keep me up for days
Staying in her arms or on her lap before dawn
sometimes with a rat, Rad D Louise, licking me
The conversations and the illustrations
were not always enough to satisfy me
I asked her furiously over and over
I was not allowed and
Father silently refused to accept this
We moved away, overseas
From the house where we held protesters
Living for a bit in Bangkok
In an internet cafe
where I discovered the earthquake
I'm left alone without my love
A decade passes and a few years go by
Sometimes we get together
When I sneak out of the dodge van
walk a mile, back and forth in the dawn
On the dock which I live on with my dad
Mom insinuates herself near my lovers bed
With threats to tell as we smoke cigarettes on the roof
Another decade passes and a sweet and secret reunion
Causes my current boyfriend to shed tears no more
