Rocks

heart shaped
           rocks on the ground
i picked them up
the ones i found
painted them up
gave them a name
place them in envelopes
accompanied by letters i wrote
to boys i hoped
secretely felt the same
one day i stopped
didn't get any in return
only cruel words
that still to this day
haunt and hang and prey
over me they sting
they burn
like mad cackling birds
an as i was wandering
wondering to myself
thoughts meandering all around
i picked up a heart shaped rock
off the ground.
