Replace people with robots to reduce costs, business as usual, eh, Bernard.

True but each worker you take out of employment, is also one lost customer. Employers that replace people with robots, are also destroying, the consumer market. Then they wonder why, they can't sell their products. Society needs to balance, both the needs of the employer, and the needs of the worker to succeed.
