Road Block
The flashlight shines upon my face as I hand the cop my
driver license.
police cars blocking the road, Singles cop behind the wheel
let me through
not who they are looking for
I wave and drive on
not knowing why or even what was going on
and now my window won't roll up
technology
A few miles into the darken night
my headlights show the image of an hitchhiker thumbing
for a ride
I speed up and pass him by
not tonight on this road
a few more miles and slam brakes
road block again by a fallen tree
huge tree not just blocking but crumbling old road
bad night for a dead phone battery
Back up and turn around down the road on the side police cars
with lights flashing, cops handcuff hitchhiker
I slow and drive by and our eyes meet
the suspect and me
If I gave you a ride freedom was blocked by a big tree
his eyes told me were he wanted me to go
stopped and waved, told cop about fallen tree
Looks like I have to go the long way now
Try the window again still stuck
and it begins to rain.
