Rivers and Roses
What was once based on ability is now politically correct
As the powers that be try to disconnect
At Cooperstown where there is so much fame
The list of players is still missing one name
Now out in Cleveland they're missing a name
At the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame
If you're over fifty, you know many of his songs
At the Hall, Johnny Rivers belongs
On the field, Pete gave it his all
But a gambling addiction was his downfall
Baseball still sweeps much under its rugs
Addiction's okay as long as it's drugs
Now Cleveland strikes another bad chord
When one of the greatest is being ignored
He's had top forty hits for over forty years
From Secret Agent Man to The Tracks of my Tears
The time has come to right this wrong
And put them in where they belong
Time's getting short as another year closes
They're not Halls of Fame without Rivers and Roses.
