River Mother
Springing from submerged breasts, engorged,
mountainous mother-stream gushes
pristinely clear primeval milk
into hungry mouths - bird, beast, human;
ancient as embryonic earth,
she nurses sloping hills, nurtures dawning valleys,
carving cradled nests in fecund soil,
setting the stage for life's grand panoply.
