Ring of Lies
You gave me a ring of turquoise
that long ago day when my tears fell,
they landed on my young girl's lap
like the ringing from a church bell.
You said it was a sin to love me
you were to find a way to learn
how rid yourself of us
even if it meant I had to burn.
The cold metal wrapped around me
the blue bright against my brown
oh how proud you looked
while I felt six feet below ground.
Old friend I have a secret to share
See, I knew you stole the ring
Wisdom isn't only gifted to the old,
you weren't close to breaking this strong young thing
