Rilke's Book of Hours

Each day I play a part
in the performance called life
I am not who I am
who you percieve me to be
it is an act
just an act
I wear a mask on my face
for hours, days, years
my whole life I will wear this mask
till it becomes my face
the only one people know
but it's not me
never me
just my mask
who I think you want me to be
so that is who I am

I have never actually read them either. It was for a contest and they gave instructions on the poem should be about.

Very interesting... I know a little about Rilke's poetry. I assume this is an en extract from that book. So well done Anne! Best wishes, Keith
