Riley

“RILEY”

it’s been 730 days
since we’ve first talked.
even today, you’re still as
incandescent as when I first
talked to you.

they’ve attempted
to destroy you,
crumble you up
and swirl you around
in Death’s cup.

the moonless nights
hold your resilience as
your shadow dances
with pride, proud of
the owner she follows.

decisions in your life
gave others light in
their darkness as
you stand and face
the hounds of Hell.
but Hell cannot take
your immortal image
from my art.

your tears will hold
the pigment of my oils,
your hair will be the tips
of my brushes,
and your life will be my
palette.

tonight, tomorrow,
and for eternity,
your soul lives.
the hounds will retreat
and
love,
will carry your smile.
