Right back where I found you
You wanted your world to change
You wanted a life with a family
Somewhere you could feel safe
Feel the love you so dearly desired
In your mind you felt that this family
Could replace the one you had lost
You wanted a child to show to the world
The loving parent you wanted to be
Experiences in life develop our minds
Our values are locked in and fixed
In your situation this didn't start well
And a narcissist was born and bred
What this meant for the world was no empathy
You would take whatever you wanted
Prison life only further detached you
From societies norms and conditions
When I first met you that evening
I felt I could give you that life
The one that you chased and repeatedly lost
With the patience and love that I gave
The process was gruelling with little reward
Like trying to tame a wild animal
Things would be calm for a period of time
Then my heart and my home would be savaged
It took a long time to realise that this never would work
For try as you might and hope as he did
A lion can never be a domesticated cat
Their brain is hardwired to kill prey
The final blow was life changing
We'd come to the end of the line
Now you're right back where I found you
The only place you'll ever be
