Right

"I heard an angel speak last night and he said "write"
                                    Elizabeth Barrett Browning

I heard an angel speak and he said write
I wasn’t sure just what I heard
Did he utter just one word
I sat and pondered there throughout the night

The thought of course occurred
Did he really say a word
And just what did he mean when he said write
Did he mean get out my pen
Put down my thoughts right then
Or did he mean to point me to his right

For right there on the ground
Was a tombstone I now found
The name upon the tombstone was my own
I knelt there at his feet
And when our eyes did meet
I knew he meant it’s time that I atone

So still there on my knees
I asked the angel – please
To help me change my life that very night
This time I’m sure I heard
Again that single word
I heard an angel speak and he said “right”
