Listen to poem:
Clickety-clack, clickety-clack, The engine is screaming down a rusted track, Steel hearts thunder, my nerves are blue-black. Chasing ghosts that never look back. Flirting with the man in black, Laughing as the signals crack, Riding high through shaking trees, Drenched in a flood of old memories. Stations blur past, the clock hands slide On and on, we go, we're tracking the guide. Fingers start crawling up my knees, I'm tired of them doing as they please, Vengeance burns, while mercy stalls, It's not worth making the calls, So I move away - I move away. So I move away - I move away. The carriage rocks, begins to sway, Doubt and fear have had their way. Yesterday's echoes start to scream, Rattled loose from a broken dream. Memories of yesterday, are now forgotten Souls are now lost, all downtrodden. I'm riding the line; I won’t turn back. We jolt, we screech, we shake, and whack. Whistling through curves that never end, Barrelling down hills, tunnels that wend Smoke-choked fear has fogged the glass, The past stares back, but will not pass. I face this all alone in my cocoon, While the outside reels like a crazy cartoon. I’m on my way — I’m heading home. I’m on my way — I’m heading home. Clickety-clack, my heart on the rail, I’m on my way — I’m heading home. I’m on my way — I’m heading home.
