Rhapsody of the Night

RHAPSODY OF THE NIGHT __________________________ Darkness she dawns her costume preparing for her play. The stars gleam and glitter on the blue stage. Moon shines, she's happy to play the part of spot light. Clouds like light boys gather and adjust the light. Breeze, she gently caresses the trees. The rustling of the leaves make music in your ears. Somewhere a dog barks keeping at bay the sinister characters of the night . Hungry infant cries in the dark. Missing the warmth of mothers embrace. She suckle her child in the warmth of her breast. Somewhere a human groans and moans in pain. From the sickness that afflicts mankind. Women they labour in pain. Curse of the gods to their womanhood. Birth of a boy child, the family rejoice and celebrate. Curse the day If its a girlchild, and the mother who conceived her. Not in least knowing, that the sex of the child is determined by the father's genes. The wailing siren of an ambulance , rushing an failing heart, just a glimmer of hope is left. Somewhere someone wailing, The church bells are tolling. Announcing that a soul has departed The night patrol is on his beat, with his strobe lights dazzling , he honks his siren, reassuring its safe, that he's on his rounds. keeping the antisocial off the streets. As the dawn breaks. The milk man, paper man and the garbage van, crisscross the streets. Its time to arise and meet the challenges of another day.

So nice seeing your first post at Soup. I really enjoyed all these different scenes making up the night. The reference to curse of a girlchild being born is so sad. Is it still that way in India? (are you from India?)

Thanks Andrea, For visiting my first post. And the wonderful appreciation. Yes I am from India living there right now. My country is too big too complicated? We have around 444 living languages, and comprise of about 29 states. Once we were princely states. That united to form this great democracy. Each state has it's own language, culture, traditions costumes food habits etc.??? So you can see how complicated it is !! Patriarchy and male chauvinism is prevalent in many forms. Our population is 1.2 billion and rising. So in the villages and suburbs and also in the cities, families where people are well educated. A girl child is looked as a unfortunate. Things are changing, but too slowly. Thanks for your concern. Keep in touch. TC:-)
