Shiki (1867-1902) a modern master& historian/ critic of the three line Japanese cultural 'haiku' helped re-habiltate the form to modern audiences of his day 'toward ' being just one of his examples.The simplicity of the form is embedded in Zen ,as this example clearly shows and is therefore dependent on who translates it
