Return of Song

not
soon
enough
song will return to tree
tall grasses and
blossom shrubs
but what if they don't
what if this is the year
there is no singing
no talking grasses
no choir amidst petals

will we forget their songs
in short time
like we've forgotten
how a smile tangoes
with the eyes

but the songs will return
they must...
surely these frosty masks will be shed
like snakeskin...
yes, the songs will return
but with different crooners
in time everything will return
masks will be shed
and the young will be spoon-fed
our sad stories
of
death

What a beautiful thoughtful write. Love the title and hopeful opening. The ending was sobering. Especially liked "a smile tangos with the eyes."
