Notes About The Poem

RETREAT

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ autumn’s gold retreats~ a blade of winter whistles through the maple’s spine. Yesterday’s sun, now a ghost pale beneath the crow’s taut cry.
Evocative end of a season’s beauty, with the warmth replaced by the harshness of winter, and the cry that adds a final, stark sound to the scene.
Dear Sara, every line creates a poem that is beautiful and impactful. I love the title and the last line, ("crow’s taut cry" - amazing!) and all the awesome imagery in between, "a blade of winter whistles/through the maple’s spine" -just WOW!! Fantastic, visceral, physical and emotional poetry. Warmest wishes, my poet friend.. ~Susan
