Retreat

I am not forgotten in the forests of so little light
I am lost in dark mists, troubled with fright
Embedded in life and love, the joyless pain
As nightly shadows hide my heart's refrain
I hide

I struggle to follow each elusive map
Finding my way I ponder the missing gaps
To understand how fortune falls, I pause to wait
Unsettled and empty, a vagrant of fate
I hide

Let me walk among sheltering trees
That tower over my hate and fears
My ransomed heart to be set free
Letting go of many desperate years
I hide

Lonna, whenever I read your work I’m left in no doubt about the mood of your poem. You write moods, mindsets and atmosphere so well. I agree with Susan, there may be an air of despondency with this piece but I do sense an element of hope as well. Cheers - Gary

Dear Lonna, your poignant poem pulses with deep, rich emotion. Vibrant, piercing imagery ponders dark emotions against the desire to "walk among sheltering trees" and for a "ransomed heart to be set free/Letting go of many desperate years". Though the speaker of this poem "hides", there is hope for the future in the reveal. Exquisite, affecting poetry, my friend. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan
