Retail Showdown

I will say it loud and proud, from a cloud or in a crowd;
I will say it by rail, mail, in a fierce wail or pierced braille:

I do not like the holiday assail so trite-spiked by all retail:
Pumpkins in the summer, early turkey ads for dinner;
Santa as a sprinter so early, his burly gets girly trimmer;
Cupid on December twenty six making him a stupid nit wit;
Easter clothes and candy posing faster than when dandy!!

Time is precious, it’s a crime to infect us with flare unfair.
Greedy nerve ever serves “pay today” without dismay
way before calendars punt the month of the day our way.

It is so true CayCay. We used to be able to enjoy the holidays before the next holiday is upon us. I saw Valentine items being sold with Easter items etc. Sadly. Congratulations on your excellent winning poem! : )

So very true, CayCay, life goes by fast enough as it is, we certainly don't need to speed it up. Congrats on your win my poetic friend. John

All you say can be very aggravating for sure. I like the way you repeat sounds, for instance "I will say it by rail, mail, in a fierce wail or pierced braille:" Nicely done.

SO original and clever, Caycay. Wow, I am glad I finally saw this one. I finally thought how to do one myself last night!! But now all these many contests are close to finishing and I have to crowd a bunch of posts together. Uggggg.

Indeedy, CayCay, we seem to be shopping our lives away. Easter eggs in January, Halloween in August, Christmas in September. No wonder I feel older than I am :( Viv x

Thank you, Sweetie! I have yet to meet anyone who likes the way retail handles holidays, but then I have no friends or acquaintances that own a store, much less a chain of stores. Greed. Shameful greed. Thanks for commenting, Caren - always like hearing from you. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Here, here!!! I couldn't agree more. I would like to comment more but it is already March and I have to hurry out and get my Christmas tree before they run out.

Good one, CayCay. Everything is so commercialed - how else can they make a buck?

They fared just fine in the decades when they sold relevant merchandise during the relevant month, even when retail wasn't open on Sundays (remember?). It is pure, simple greed, in my opinion. Thanks for commenting, Line - I appreciate you ... CayCay

I know not what boxing day is?? It is awful. When I was young, stores were closed in America on Sunday - now everything is not only as stated in my poem, but also opened 24 hours (many.) It is greed, nothing more. Glad to have your comments - always. Poetry hugs ... CayCay
