Notes About The Poem

Written 19th August, 2026 Double Etheree.

Resurgence

Wild, fierce inferno claims the ancient scrub, Gossamer smoke hides the canopy, Burning heat sweeps across the earth, Blackened vault cracks in the blaze, Red, hissing sparks ignite, Blistered ironbark, Forest of grey, Scorched timber, Silence, Ash. Rain. Seeds burst, Water pools, Fresh leaves stretch out, Wattle starts to bloom, Susurrous bush awakes, Fragrant petrichor ascends, Harbinger of a vibrant spring, Paperbarks becoming bathed in gold, Effervescent rains wash the eucalypt.

Thank you Karen ... yes bushfires in Australia are both destructive and necessary. Many plants rely on fire for their seed pods to open. The blessing of rainfall after brings new life.❤️

Beautiful capture of the essence of change. Excellent depiction of a variety of colours & how they mix when change happens. I loved the middle lines of the etheree depicting the changeover from ash to rain to seeds bursting. Last line has solid staying power. You’ve chosen the absolute right form for this poem, Alison : it is etheric and grounded > Well done ! Liked. ❤️

Thanks Paula, in the process of writing for a contest I came up with few ideas and realised I had created a beautiful hourglass as a consequence.❤️
