Resistance

Resistance
My dearest
Your promises are all lies
Your whispers of love-
Lie wasted
My tears flow- like
The river runs deep-
Still- you do not comprehend.

I am only human-
I cannot live for you-
Only for myself-

I see not- what you
Would have me see-
Only- what is in my heart-

I hold out my arms-
Embracing nothing
My body is met by cool soft wind-
It caresses it lovingly-
You ask me to
Come to you- to enfold-
To engulf- to allow you-
To penetrate my being-

To cling to you as
Though
Life itself has turned
It’s back on me.

I cannot- for- if I do-
I am nothing
So, I turn my back on you with love-
