Resilience
The soul recoils when darkness lingers on
plunges into a silent deep to drown
but dreams come alive by the light of dawn
resilient is the one that breaks not down.
The yearning for applause does not abate
grace is intact when the heart finds its home
nothing sates the mind, none is left to fate.
Daylight fades, and my soul is free to roam.
But there is no sunrise, only the gloom
of a brooding sky. Clouds scurrying low
overhead make me feel a chill, like doom
leading me to waters icy in snow.
I need a fresh wind to end this bleeding,
and pain to gather up its things, pack up
then slip away with no time for pleading,
breathe resilience a fragrance in my cup.
I wait for spring to come and melt the snow
one flake at a time, all the woods budding
each tiny leaf and flower to bestow
enchantment to a grim world rebounding.
