Remember Me

Remember me as I truly was
Not as you may have wished me to be
But as the seeker of truth
I always was
Remember how I saw the world
Even if you don't agree

Remember how I hurt you
with words
Then allow those to be
Opportunities for you to practice
Granting grace to others

Remember things that made me smile
Though I was always shy to show
And secrets that I shared with only you

Remember that I stood Unfailingly,
unashamed
with our Lady Liberty in the harbor
And the lyrics of Emma Lazarus
Even through the icy cold Minnesota
winter of 2026

Remember that one of my favorite movies
Was "Things we Lost in the Fire'
Because it helped me remember
What actually mattered

And "The Fisher King" because I believe that inside
some of the most brilliant minds
is the thinnest line between sanity and insanity
Both of which I can appreciate

And finally remember how I so solemnly admired
"The Remains of the Day"
with Anthony Hopkins, as it was an excellent reminder
of how lost opportunities are
rarely retrievable.

Remember how I loved to sing and listen
to others' songs. Too many to mention.
Remember me as both
a lover of teaching
and of learning.

Remember that the joy of writing was,
on Earth,
the closest I ever came
to Eternity.

Lastly, please remember that I tried.
that's all.. just...
I tried.
Remember me
